MICK REINMAN —
PAINT & PASSION
OCTOBER 1 – NOVEMBER 2 · 2008
Mick Reinman's has been described as a painter's painter. He, living
and working in Ojai, California, attended Chouinard Art Institute and
has been a working artist and painter for over 25 years. His work derived
from a figurative form and developed over several years into icon-like
painted, confined negative spaces creating a place for art, architecture
and symbolism to coexist.
Mick Reinman's latest series of paintings explores the complex internal
drama of the human spirit. Reinman uses the primal act of painting,
to create geo-organic forms that depict the universality of human emotions.
Seduction, passion, aggression and resolution can all be seen in this
work. He attacks the large, birch ply surfaces, working and reworking
oil paints and resins, in order to express honest, immediate feelings
in a raw and powerful way. These abstract images address the existential
struggles that we all face, on both personal and global levels.
UPCOMING
EXHIBITION
MICHAEL KESSLER — GRAFTINGS
NOVEMBER 5–30 · 2008
OPENING RECEPTION: NOVEMBER 6 ·
5–8 PM
Michael Kessler, originally from Pennsylvania, now lives in Santa
Fe, New Mexico. He won several prestigious awards and fellowships
(American Academy in Rome, Pollock/Krasner, Whitney). His work is
in the collections of 24 museums nationwide, including the Santa Barbara
Museum of Art, and can also be found in a seemingly endless number
of corporate and private collections.
Michael Kessler’s first solo-exhibition in Santa Barbara presents
a selection of his newest work. Kessler’s handling of surface
texture is strikingly accomplished. With conceptual sophistication
and technical élan he illuminates the ongoing dialogue between
natural forces and the human need for order and meaning. His uncanny
synthesis of action painting with hard-edged abstraction addresses
the interplay of freedom and containment.
