MANIPULATIONS — TERI BLODGETT &
METROV
SEPTEMBER 1 – OCTOBER 3 · 2010
OPENING RECEPTION: SEPTEMBER 2 ·
5–8 PM
An exhibition presenting a selection of black-and-white photographs
by Teri Blodgett, individually manipulated and altered through full
or partial dye-coloring and painting, juxtaposed with a painting
and prints of the limited edition “A 5” series by D.
A. Metrov who blend known comic figures into his twisted compositions.
TERI BLODGETT
Tracing her Napa Valley roots back to her great-grandfather, Teri
came to photography after raising a family and working in the wine
industry. Napa College provided ground for her initial foray into
photography, from there she earned her fine arts degree and studied
at the prestigious Lorenzo De Medici Art Institute in Florence,
Italy. Teri's signature is the sense of calm and familiarity expressed
in her images -- from animals to landscapes, portraits to nude studies.
She is also lauded for the unique techniques she employs to further
enhance and shape each image.
METROV
Born of Italian and Basque descent, Metrov was raised in the small,
Southern California city of Ontario. He attended UCLA where he studied
art history and filmmaking, and continued to develop his drawing
and painting skills. He then moved to New York City where he worked
as a designer and fine arts painter for ten years. He also studied
under Prix di Rome scholar, Gilbert Stone. For a while he collaborated
with director Abel Ferrara on feature length motion picture projects.
By this time his collectors included a distinguished list of international
patrons. He moved back to Los Angeles in the 80’s; continued
to paint, exhibit, write and make films.
